Grand Marshal

The Grand Marshal of a parade is an honored guest, usually a celebrity or politician of some sort.

It’s kinda strange when you put that together with the fact that the term Marshal had its origin as a military ranking.

Can you imagine what sort of threat would require an army of cartoon character balloon floats  led by the grand marshal of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade?

However, George Lucas made sure that the 2007 Tournament of Roses parade was well situated to suppress any sort of rebellion.
